The Mobile Web. Surf Anytime, Anywhere

Find out what you can do with WebSite X5 Evolution 8.

After many years of promises about mobile computing and the availability of the Internet on the move, the predictions have finally come true. Whether people are browsing the web on a mobile phone, a digital music player or a PDA, there is no doubt that the day of the mobile web is here.

Of course, that can present a few challenges to website creators. If you have designed your website to look perfect on a 19 inch computer screen, what will it look like when viewed on a tiny mobile phone? Will anything appear at all?

The Internet is already evolving to cope with the mobile web:

If then we consider that:

  • Google maintains an ad hoc index for "mobile friendly" sites, and Yahoo has decided to focus on mobiles with a range of products (Yahoo! Go for Mobile 3.0 and Yahoo! oneSearch) and a series of agreements with the main operators;
  • In May 2005, W3C, the consortium that guides the development of the World Wide Web, announced the launch of Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) to set guidelines for developing websites that are visible and usable on mobile devices;
  • In May 2006, the .mobi domain was introduced to better identify mobile-friendly websites;

It’s clear that it’s time to think about your website visitors not just being sat at a computer, but viewing your website on a wide array of different devices, particularly those with small screens. That may sound like a lot of work, but there is no need to worry if your site has been created in WebSite X5 – it’s mobile friendly!
